Fuel calculator
cost, range and fuel comparison
Find out whether gasoline or ethanol is the better deal, calculate the cost of a trip, and estimate your car's range. The comparison uses the 70% efficiency rule with real pump prices and actual vehicle consumption.
How to use
- 1In 'Trip cost', enter the distance, average fuel efficiency (km/l), and fuel price to estimate how much you'll spend.
- 2In 'Gas or ethanol', type the price of both fuels at the pump to find out which one pays off.
- 3In 'Tank range', enter the tank capacity and average efficiency to estimate how far you can go on a full tank.
- 4Select the matching currency (Real, Dollar, or Euro) in each calculator.
Practical examples
400 km trip with 12 km/l efficiency
With fuel at $6.00 per liter, the estimated trip cost is about $200.
Ethanol at $4.10 and gas at $6.20
The ratio is about 0.66 (66%) — below 70%, so ethanol is the better deal in this scenario.
50-liter tank with 12 km/l efficiency
The estimated range on a full tank is about 600 km.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if ethanol or gasoline is better value?
Divide the ethanol price by the gasoline price. If the result is less than 0.70 (70%), ethanol is the better choice. Our calculator does this automatically.
How do I calculate how much I'll spend on a trip?
Enter the total distance, your car's average fuel efficiency (km/l or mpg), and the fuel price. The result appears in your chosen currency.
What is vehicle range?
Range is the distance a car can travel on a full tank of fuel. It varies based on the vehicle model and driving conditions.
